Mission Statement of the 290 PRC
The mission of the Highway 290 Passenger Rail Coalition (290 PRC) is to provide an advocacy group representing the appropriate counties to promote the consideration of implementing passenger rail service along Highway 290 using the Union Pacific Right-of-Way. Service, in varying schedules, would be provided daily from downtown Houston, Cy-Fair and Hempstead/Prairie View and daily and/or weekly from downtown Houston to College Station.
Vision of the 290 PRC
- 290 PRC is an advocacy group to promote a passenger rail project along the Highway 290 corridor on the Union Pacific railroad tracks
- 290 PRC will identify and maintain communications with all stakeholders, including governmental entities and developers and citizens groups, along the proposed passenger rail route
- 290 PRC will work with stakeholders to ascertain a realistic proposal for passenger rail along the proposed passenger rail route
- 290 PRC will perform a planning function for said passenger rail route, using the expertise of all resources available within the appropriate communities
- 290 PRC will identify funding sources for the proposed project and will lobby for resources from appropriate entities and groups
- 290 PRC will maintain an information database for all stakeholders and serve as a spokesperson to the media and other appropriate outlets for said stakeholders
